Hayter Harrier 48

This week, I once again mended a Hayter Harrier 48 BBC with only one side of the rear roller being driven… I put a new woodruff key in the left hand roller and replaced the vari drive selector that was also damaged (not properly adjusting drive speed).

This week I had this little Macallister mower in the shop that was bogging down and not starting properly. To start, I cleaned the carb thoroughly and replaced the petrol. No luck! Then I changed the ignition coil and spark plug. It started up but was still bogging. I checked underneath to find the self drive belt was wrapped around the blade boss! I removed the belt and it ran perfectly. The owner informed me he doesn’t use the self propel feature, so the belt was not replaced. I also noticed that the engine speed adjuster wasn’t working properly and the cable had fallen out. My father cleverly pointed out that flipping around the casing for the adjuster would make it work. We tried it, and it worked! After an air filter and deck clean, this mower is back up and running as new! 🍃
